Cayman’s Vaccine Roll-Out: A Success Story

In light of the Caymanian public’s positive response to the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out here in the Cayman Islands, the Bermuda Red Cross has invited Hazard Management Cayman Islands to share their experience on Bermuda’s local radio later this week.

The Bermuda Broadcasting Company has teamed up with the Bermuda Red Cross to bring together disaster management professionals from around the region on the radio. The program will include a discussion of both the broader impact of COVID-19 on the region as a whole as well as the impact of the vaccine roll-out on individual communities.

One government official in the Cayman Islands expressed pride in the local community for its response to the COVID-19 crisis and celebrated this opportunity to share ideas and lessons with other nations.

The Minister for Home Affairs, the Hon. Tara Rivers, stated that the national response to the pandemic has been “exemplary,” praising the Caymanian government for its efforts to protect and to fortify the health resources that have contributed to the success of the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out.

The health resources that aided the roll-out include a public education campaign, government support across the board, and effective vaccine roll-out planning measures.

The Director of HMCI, Danielle Coleman, acknowledged the challenges that many nations around the world face in regards to the logistics of vaccinating entire populations whilst managing misinformation. As the vaccine roll-out continues, Coleman looks forward to collaborating with other leaders in order to strengthen even further everyone’s response to the pandemic.

As of 19 March, more than half of the adult residents of the Cayman Islands have received at least one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
